What is Restylane?

Restylane is one of the longest-established hyaluronic acid filler brands. It was first developed in Sweden and is now part of Galderma. The range includes gels of different firmness, so softer products can be used for the lips and finer lines and firmer ones for deeper volume.

Common uses include nasolabial folds, lips, cheeks and the chin. Our head director, Dr. Park Yoon-soo, is a Restylane Expert Member with Galderma. If you are comparing brands, see Juvederm or the Korean-made Neuramis.

How Restylane works

Restylane gel is placed beneath the skin to replace lost volume or shape an area. Your doctor selects a softer or firmer product to suit the depth and movement of each area.

  1. Consultation: your doctor assesses your face and chooses the Restylane product and amount for each area.
  2. Treatment: after numbing cream, the filler is placed with a fine needle or blunt cannula in about 10–20 minutes.
  3. After: your doctor checks the shape and symmetry, and you can return to your day with mild swelling possible.

Why patients choose Restylane

  • A long global history — one of the longest-established HA filler brands.
  • Extensive clinical experience — widely studied and used worldwide.
  • A range for different areas — softer and firmer gels for lips, folds and contour.
  • Reversible — as a hyaluronic acid filler, it can be dissolved if needed.

Who is Restylane for — and when we suggest something else

Good candidates

  • You prefer an imported filler brand with a long international history.
  • You want softer lips, or an upper lip that curls inward to show a little more.
  • You have mild folds or contour concerns and want a natural-looking change.
  • You want a reversible hyaluronic acid result that is visible on the day.
  • You are happy to start with a small amount and review it later.

We may suggest something else if…

  • Your lip lines are fine and vertical, without a wish for more volume. Upper Lip Line Filler targets those lines specifically.
  • You want deep hydration and glow rather than shape. A skin booster such as Belotero Revive suits that goal.
  • Your lips feel overfilled from earlier treatment. We may assess you for Filler Dissolving first.
  • You get cold sores, or one is active now. Treatment waits until it has healed, and you may need advice first.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding. We postpone cosmetic filler until after this time.

What happens at your Restylane session in Seomyeon

  1. Message us on WhatsApp first. Send a relaxed and a smiling photo of the area, and say what you want to change. Include your travel dates and past filler.
  2. Consultation with Dr. Park. She checks lip proportions, how your upper lip moves when you smile, and your medical history. She then suggests filler, Botox or both.
  3. Preparation & numbing. Numbing cream is applied for about 20–30 minutes. Lips are sensitive, so this step matters.
  4. The treatment. Injecting takes about 10–20 minutes. You feel pressure and stinging, and you check the shape in a mirror before finishing.
  5. Out the door & follow-up. You can return to your day; mild swelling is common, especially in lips. Message us if lumps or asymmetry persist.

How Dr. Park plans your Restylane treatment

Choosing within the range

Restylane is a range of hyaluronic acid gels rather than one product. Some suit lips, others suit deeper contour. Dr. Park chooses according to the area and the depth needed.

The Lip Flip plan

Our listed Restylane offer is the Lip Flip Package for an inward-curled upper lip. It combines designed lip filler 1cc (Belotero or Restylane) with lip flip Botox. The filler shapes the lip, while the small Botox dose relaxes the muscle so the lip rolls out slightly.

She keeps the vermilion border soft and checks balance between upper and lower lip. Lip results usually fade sooner than deeper areas, within the 6–12 month range. Repeat treatment is typically every 6–12 months.

Restylane results: what to expect and when

  • Immediately: the change is visible as soon as treatment ends, often with some swelling.
  • Days 2–7: swelling and any bruising settle.
  • Weeks 2–4: the filler settles and softens; this is the right time to judge the result.
  • Months 6–12: the filler is gradually absorbed and a top-up can maintain the result. Timing varies by person.

Side effects, risks and who should avoid Restylane

Hyaluronic acid filler is generally well tolerated when performed by a doctor. Possible side effects include:

  • Swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising at the injection sites (usually settles within a few days)
  • Small lumps or slight unevenness, which often soften as the filler settles
  • Rarely, infection, an allergic reaction or delayed lumps
  • Very rarely, filler can block a blood vessel. Contact the clinic or seek urgent care immediately for severe pain, skin colour changes or changes in vision

Not suitable if you: are pregnant or breastfeeding; have an infection, cold sore or inflamed skin in the area; are allergic to hyaluronic acid filler ingredients or local anaesthetics such as lidocaine; have a history of severe allergic reactions; or have a bleeding disorder. Tell your doctor about all medications, especially blood thinners, and any previous filler or surgery in the area.

Restylane results timeline: when results appear and peak, and how long they last (About 6–12 months (product and area))

Restylane vs Juvederm and Belotero: which should you choose?

These are all imported hyaluronic acid products, but each has a different focus.

Treatment How it works Best for Downtime Results last
Restylane Swedish hyaluronic acid filler range Lips and natural contour Immediate return; mild swelling possible About 6–12 months
Juvederm Smooth, cohesive imported hyaluronic acid gel Mobile areas around the mouth Immediate return; mild swelling possible About 6–12 months
Belotero Revive HA and glycerol skin booster for hydration Fine lines and dry, dull skin Mild swelling or needle marks for 1–2 days Varies; 3+ sessions recommended

Choose Restylane for lip shape or contour with a long-established brand. Choose Juvederm if Dr. Park feels its gel suits your area better. Choose Belotero Revive if you want skin quality, not volume.

Aftercare after Restylane

  • Avoid touching or pressing firmly on the treated area.
  • On the day of treatment, avoid saunas, hot baths, strenuous exercise, and alcohol.
  • For 1–2 weeks after treatment, avoid strong massage or heat on the treated area.
  • Temporary swelling or bruising may occur and usually subsides within a few days.
  • If asymmetry, lumps, or discomfort persist, please contact the clinic.

Downtime after Restylane, and flying home

Lips swell more than most areas, so the first 24–72 hours may look fuller than the final shape. Small bruises can appear at injection points. Avoid pressing or massaging the area for 1–2 weeks. Wait to use lipstick and lip products until the injection points have closed, usually the next day.

You can sightsee the same day. Avoid saunas, the jjimjilbang and strong heat on the area for 1–2 weeks where you can. Skip alcohol and hard exercise on the day. Give Dr. Park your flight date at consultation. Leaving a day or two before a long flight lets us check swelling. More advice is in our aftercare guide for travellers.

What is a lip flip, and why combine it with Restylane?

A lip flip uses a small dose of Botox above the upper lip to relax part of the mouth muscle. As the muscle relaxes, the upper lip rolls outward slightly and shows a little more. It does not add volume on its own. Restylane filler, by contrast, adds shape and fullness directly. Combining them can help an inward-curled upper lip look fuller without using a large amount of filler. The Botox effect is temporary and usually needs repeating sooner than filler. Dr. Park checks whether your lip actually curls inward before suggesting the package. Read more about Botox if you are new to it.

Why is Dr. Park a Restylane Expert Member, and does it matter?

Dr. Park is a Restylane Expert Member with Galderma, the company behind Restylane. It reflects her experience with this product range. It is not a promise of any result, so judge any clinic on its consultation too. What matters most is product choice, placement and restraint. An experienced injector knows which Restylane gel suits lips versus deeper areas. She is also a Belotero Key Doctor with Merz Korea, so she can compare both brands for lips. Ask her why she would choose one over the other for your face. Her full background is on our doctors page.

How do I keep Restylane lips looking natural over the years?

Space your top-ups and avoid adding filler before the last treatment has faded. Lips move constantly, so filler there breaks down sooner than in deeper areas. Repeated top-ups too close together can gradually make lips look heavy or shift their shape. Dr. Park reviews what is still present before adding more. Sometimes a smaller top-up, or a lip flip alone, is enough. If old filler has migrated above the lip line, she may suggest Filler Dissolving first. Bring photos of your lips from before any filler, if you have them.

Restylane FAQ

How much does Restylane cost in Busan?

Our listed offer is the Lip Flip Package for an inward-curled upper lip: designed lip filler 1cc (Belotero or Restylane) plus lip flip Botox. It is KRW 290,000, reduced from KRW 492,000 (excl. 10% VAT). For other areas, ask us on WhatsApp for a quote.

Does Restylane hurt?

Numbing cream is applied for about 20–30 minutes first, and many Restylane products also contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. Most people feel pressure and slight stinging rather than sharp pain. The injections take about 10–20 minutes.

How long does Restylane last?

Results usually last about 6–12 months, depending on the product and area. Lip results tend to fade sooner than deeper placements in the cheeks or chin. Your metabolism and lifestyle also make a difference, and a top-up maintains the result.

Can I go sightseeing or fly after Restylane?

Yes, most people return to sightseeing straight away. Mild swelling or bruising can last a few days. Avoid saunas, hot baths, alcohol and hard exercise on the day, and avoid pressing or massaging the area for 1–2 weeks. Mention any flight during your consultation.

Is Restylane or Juvederm better?

Neither is better for everyone. Both are well-established imported hyaluronic acid fillers with ranges for lips, folds and contour, but the gels are made differently and feel slightly different. Your doctor chooses the product that suits the area, depth and look you want.

Who injects Restylane at Art of Shine Clinic?

Dr. Park Yoon-soo, our Head Director, performs Restylane treatments herself. She is a Restylane Expert Member (Galderma) and graduated from Kyungpook National University School of Medicine. Her background is on our doctors page.

Can I have Restylane on the same day I message you?

It depends on availability. Message us on WhatsApp with your preferred time and a photo. We will check whether a same-day slot is free and confirm. We are closed on Sundays.

Is the lip flip Botox included in the Restylane package?

Yes. The listed Lip Flip Package includes designed lip filler 1cc (Belotero or Restylane) plus lip flip Botox, for KRW 290,000 (excl. 10% VAT). Event prices change, so confirm on WhatsApp when you book.
