What is Radiesse?

Radiesse, made by Merz Aesthetics, is a filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The gel provides immediate lift and volume; as it is absorbed, the microspheres act as a scaffold that stimulates your own collagen, so firmness can continue to improve.

It is used for nasolabial folds, marionette and mouth-corner lines and, when diluted, for neck lines and skin laxity. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler such as Restylane, Radiesse cannot be dissolved with an enzyme, so careful planning matters. For gradual volume without a gel, compare Olidia or Juvelook Volume.

How Radiesse works

Radiesse works in two stages. The gel carrier adds volume immediately, and over the following months the CaHA microspheres stimulate fibroblasts to produce new collagen. The body gradually breaks down the microspheres naturally.

  1. Consultation: your doctor examines the folds or lines and plans the amount, dilution and injection points.
  2. Treatment: after numbing cream, Radiesse is injected with a fine needle or cannula, then gently shaped.
  3. After: you can return to daily life straight away; a review is advised if anything feels uneven.

Why patients choose Radiesse

  • Volume and collagen at once — immediate correction plus gradual firming.
  • Versatile — used for nasolabial folds, mouth lines and neck lines.
  • Long-lasting — results typically last about 12–18 months.
  • Firmness improves over time — collagen stimulation supports skin elasticity.

Who is Radiesse for — and when we suggest something else

Good candidates

  • You have deepening nasolabial folds or lines around the mouth corners.
  • Horizontal neck lines or crepey neck skin bother you.
  • You want volume now plus gradual firmness over the following months.
  • You prefer a longer-lasting option and plan to repeat every 12–18 months.
  • You are comfortable with a product that cannot be dissolved with an enzyme.

We may suggest something else if…

  • For lips or under the eyes, soft HA products are usually preferred, such as Lip & Mouth Corner Filler or Tear Trough Filler.
  • You want a result you can reverse if you change your mind — an HA filler such as Restylane can be dissolved.
  • You only want skin quality, not volume — a booster such as Juvelook Skin is more suitable.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection, or a history of keloids or granulomas. Dr. Park will advise waiting or an alternative.

What happens at your Radiesse session in Seomyeon

  1. Message us on WhatsApp first. Send us on WhatsApp (+82 10-2689-0370) photos of the areas you want treated, any previous filler details and your travel dates.
  2. Consultation with Dr. Park. She examines fold depth, skin thickness and earlier filler. She confirms whether Radiesse is right for each area or whether an HA filler is safer.
  3. Preparation and numbing. The area is cleansed and numbing cream is applied for about 20–30 minutes.
  4. The treatment. Injection takes about 15–20 minutes. You may feel pressure and mild discomfort; some fullness is visible straight away.
  5. Out the door and follow-up. You can return to daily life immediately, though mild swelling or bruising is possible. Message us if lumps or asymmetry persist.

How Dr. Park plans your Radiesse treatment

Areas and depth

Radiesse is used for nasolabial folds, lines above the lips, mouth corners and neck lines. For folds it is placed deeper to support the crease. For the neck, a diluted, more spread-out approach is often used.

Syringes and sessions

Our packages are based on 1 syringe, either as a single session or spread across 3 sessions. Dr. Park explains which suits your areas at consultation.

Spacing and maintenance

Results usually last about 12–18 months, so repeat treatment is planned within that window. She avoids overcorrecting, because the product cannot be dissolved and collagen adds subtle firmness over time.

Radiesse results: what to expect and when

  • Immediately: volume is visible as soon as the treatment is finished.
  • First week: any swelling or bruising settles over a few days.
  • Months 2–3: collagen stimulation adds firmness and improves skin quality.
  • Months 12–18: the effect gradually fades; timing varies by person.

Results vary by person.

Side effects, risks and who should avoid Radiesse

Radiesse is generally well tolerated when performed by a doctor. Possible side effects include:

  • Swelling, redness, tenderness or bruising for a few days
  • Small lumps or unevenness, which may need review
  • Rarely, infection or nodules
  • Very rarely, blockage of a blood vessel — seek help immediately for skin colour changes, severe pain or vision problems

Not suitable if you: are pregnant or breastfeeding; have an active skin infection or inflammation in the area; have a bleeding disorder; have a known allergy to any component; or tend to form keloid scars. Radiesse is not typically used in the lips. Tell your doctor about all medications, especially blood thinners.

Radiesse results timeline: when results appear and peak, and how long they last (About 12–18 months)

Radiesse vs HA filler, Juvelook Volume and Olidia: which should you choose?

Radiesse sits between a filler and a collagen stimulator, so it helps to compare both types.

Treatment How it works Best for Downtime Results last
Radiesse Calcium-based filler that also stimulates collagen Folds, mouth area, neck lines Back to daily life; mild swelling possible About 12–18 months
Wrinkle Filler Hyaluronic acid fills creases directly Precise, reversible correction Back to daily life; mild swelling possible About 6–12 months
Juvelook Volume PDLLA with hyaluronic acid Gradual, subtle volume Mild swelling or needle marks for 1–2 days Varies; 3+ sessions advised
Olidia PLLA stimulates collagen Broad, gradual volume Mild swelling or needle marks for 1–2 days Varies; 3+ sessions advised

Choose Radiesse if you want immediate support that also firms and lasts longer. Choose an HA filler if you want reversibility. Choose Juvelook Volume or Olidia for slow, collagen-only change.

Aftercare after Radiesse

  • Avoid touching or pressing firmly on the treated area.
  • On the day of treatment, skip saunas, hot baths, strenuous exercise and alcohol.
  • For 1–2 weeks, avoid strong massage and heat on the treated area.
  • Temporary swelling or bruising may occur and usually settles within a few days.
  • Contact the clinic if unevenness, lumps or discomfort persist.

Downtime after Radiesse, and flying home

You can return to daily life immediately. Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising may last a few days. Do not press or touch the area. For 1–2 weeks avoid strong massage, facial treatments and heat on the treated zone. Skip alcohol, saunas, hot baths and hard exercise on the day.

Gentle sightseeing is fine. Postpone jjimjilbang and hot-spring visits for at least the first week. Most people wait until the next day for make-up over injection points. Tell Dr. Park your flight date. Staying a few days lets her check symmetry before you leave. See our aftercare tips for travellers.

Is Radiesse good for neck lines?

Radiesse is one of the options used for neck lines and crepey neck skin. For this area it is usually diluted and spread thinly, so it supports the skin rather than filling a single crease. Over the following months, collagen stimulation can add gradual firmness. Very deep, fixed lines may also need a soft HA filler placed into the crease. Neck skin is thin, so careful technique matters. Dr. Park will examine your neck and explain which approach she recommends.

Why can't Radiesse be dissolved like hyaluronic acid filler?

Hyaluronidase only breaks down hyaluronic acid. Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite particles in a gel. The enzyme has no effect on them, so the body clears them gradually instead. This is why Radiesse lasts longer, and also why careful planning matters. Dr. Park places it conservatively and avoids overcorrection for this reason. It is generally avoided in areas where precise, reversible results are important, such as the lips. If you are unsure, starting with an HA filler and adding Radiesse later is a reasonable path.

Can I have Radiesse if I already have filler?

Often yes, but timing and placement need care. Tell Dr. Park which product was used, where, and when. Recent filler may still be settling, so she may ask you to wait. If old filler has migrated or looks uneven, dissolving it first may be suggested. Radiesse is not usually layered directly over a fresh HA filler in the same spot. Bring any records you have; they make planning safer. If you do not know what was used before, say so; Dr. Park will plan more cautiously.
