What is Nabota?

Nabota (prabotulinumtoxinA) is a botulinum toxin type A made by Daewoong Pharmaceutical in Korea. In the United States it is approved by the FDA for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines, where it is sold under the name Jeuveau.

Like all toxins, it relaxes the muscles it is injected into, softening forehead, frown and crow's-feet lines and reducing a bulky jaw muscle over time. Art of Shine Clinic also offers Liztox, Coretox and Xeomin; see our Botox page for a general overview.

How Nabota works

Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signal that tells a muscle to contract. As the muscle relaxes, the skin over it creases less, so dynamic lines soften. In the jaw, the relaxed masseter gradually reduces in bulk over several weeks.

  1. Consultation: your doctor checks your muscle movement and maps the injection points.
  2. Injection: very fine needles deliver small, measured doses. Most people feel a brief pinch.
  3. After: you can go straight back to your day; results develop over the following days to weeks.

Why patients choose Nabota

  • U.S. FDA-approved toxin — approved in the U.S. for frown lines.
  • High-purity production — made with a refined manufacturing process.
  • Tailored to each area — dose adjusted to each muscle for a natural look.
  • No downtime — about 5–10 minutes, then back to your day.

Who is Nabota for — and when we suggest something else

Good candidates

  • You want to soften frown lines between the brows, the area Nabota is U.S. FDA-approved for.
  • You also have forehead lines or crow’s feet that deepen when you move.
  • You like the idea of a Korean-made toxin with an international approval history.
  • You have a strong jaw muscle and want a slimmer lower face, after assessment.
  • You want a short visit, about 5–10 minutes, with no downtime.

We may suggest something else if…

  • Your main concern is lost volume, such as hollow temples. Temple filler treats volume; toxin does not.
  • Your concern is sagging rather than movement lines. Lifting such as Ulthera may suit better.
  • You want to treat excessive sweating rather than wrinkles. See Hyperhidrosis Botox.
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neuromuscular disorder. Treatment should be postponed or avoided.

What happens at your Nabota session in Seomyeon

  1. Message us on WhatsApp first. Tell us which lines bother you, when you last had toxin and which brand. Add your arrival and departure dates.
  2. Consultation with Dr. Park. Dr. Park studies your frown, raised brows and smile. She reviews medicines, allergies and any past uneven results.
  3. Preparation & numbing. No separate anesthesia is required for Nabota. Your skin is cleansed, and points may be marked while you frown or smile.
  4. The treatment. Injections take about 5–10 minutes. You will feel short pinches; a small bump may appear and fades soon.
  5. Out the door & follow-up. You can return to daily life immediately. The effect builds over days; send a photo on WhatsApp if you have questions at two weeks.

How Dr. Park plans your Nabota treatment

Frown lines come from several small muscles working together. Dr. Park checks which ones pull hardest and how your brows sit. She then places Nabota where it relaxes the lines without dropping the brow.

For the forehead, she balances the dose so the brows can still lift a little. For crow’s feet, she keeps your smile natural. If the jaw is treated, the masseter is assessed by touch while you clench.

Nabota is usually repeated every 3–6 months. We time the next session to when movement starts to return, not on a fixed date. This helps keep results steady without over-treating.

Nabota results: what to expect and when

  • Day 3–7: lines begin to soften as the muscle relaxes.
  • Week 2: the full wrinkle-relaxing effect is usually visible.
  • Weeks 4–8: jaw-slimming results develop gradually.
  • Months 3–6: movement slowly returns; a repeat treatment maintains results (varies by person).

Side effects, risks and who should avoid Nabota

Botulinum toxin treatment is generally well tolerated when performed by a doctor. Possible side effects include:

  • Small bumps, redness, swelling or bruising at injection points (usually settles within hours to a few days)
  • Mild headache or a feeling of heaviness
  • Rarely, temporary eyebrow or eyelid drooping, or asymmetry, which fades as the effect wears off
  • Mild chewing fatigue for a few weeks after jaw treatment

Not suitable if you: are pregnant or breastfeeding; have a neuromuscular disorder (such as myasthenia gravis); have an infection at the injection site; or are allergic to any ingredient. Tell your doctor about all medications, especially blood thinners.

Nabota vs Botox, Liztox and Coretox: which should you choose?

These toxins share one mechanism; your choice is about product, approval history and your own response.

Aftercare after Nabota

  • For about 3–4 hours, avoid lying down or rubbing the treated area.
  • On the day of treatment, skip saunas, hot baths, hard exercise and alcohol.
  • Do not massage or press firmly on the treated area.
  • Temporary swelling, bruising or soreness may occur and usually settles on its own.
  • Results and how long they last vary with your condition and lifestyle.

Downtime after Nabota, and flying home

Most people walk out looking as they came in. Tiny bumps settle within an hour or so, and a small bruise is possible. Keep your head upright and hands off the area for 3–4 hours. That evening, skip the sauna or jjimjilbang, hot baths, alcohol and a hard workout. Makeup can usually go on gently later in the day.

The full effect takes about one to two weeks. If you can, have Nabota near the start of your trip. Share your flight date during the consultation. Flying itself is generally not a problem, but avoid pressing on the area. More tips: aftercare tips for travellers.

What does FDA approval mean for Nabota?

It means the U.S. FDA approved Nabota, sold there as Jeuveau, for one specific use. That use is the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Approval shows that the product passed a formal review for that indication. It does not mean other uses are approved in the U.S. Uses such as forehead lines or jaw slimming are medical decisions. Dr. Park makes them after examining you. Approval in one country is also not a guarantee of your personal result. Correct dose and placement still matter most.

Will Nabota make my forehead look frozen?

It should not, if the dose is planned for your face. A frozen look usually comes from too much toxin or poor placement. Dr. Park aims to soften lines while keeping some brow movement. People with heavy brows or hooded lids need extra care, because over-relaxing the forehead can make the brows feel low. Tell her if you prefer a very light result. A first treatment can be kept conservative. You can then review it at about two weeks and adjust next time.

Can I switch from Botox to Nabota?

Yes, switching between toxin brands is common. All of them are botulinum toxin type A, so they work in the same way. Some people find one lasts a little longer for them than another. Bring the name of your last product, the date and the areas treated. Tell Dr. Park how long it lasted and whether you liked the result. That history helps her plan your Nabota dose. If you have had toxin very often, she may also mention Xeomin or Coretox.
