What is Milk Peel?

Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) with a larger molecule than glycolic acid, so it works more gently on the surface of the skin. It loosens the bonds between dead skin cells so they shed more easily, and it also acts as a humectant, helping the skin retain water.

This makes Milk Peel a good choice for dull, dry or sensitive skin that finds stronger peels irritating. Similar gentle options at Art of Shine Clinic include Lala Peel and Aqua Peel, which combines cleansing with hydration.

How Milk Peel works

The lactic acid solution is applied to clean skin and left for a short, controlled time. It gently loosens the outermost layer of dead cells and draws moisture into the skin. The peel is then neutralised or removed and soothing products are applied.

  1. Consultation: your doctor checks your skin type, sensitivity and current skincare.
  2. Peel: the skin is cleansed, the lactic acid solution is applied and timed, then removed.
  3. After: soothing and moisturising products are applied; you can return to your day.

Why patients choose Milk Peel

  • Mild exfoliation — lactic acid clears dead skin cells for smoother, brighter-looking skin.
  • Moisture and calm together — lactic acid also helps the skin hold water.
  • Suits dry, sensitive skin — a gentler option than stronger acid peels.
  • No downtime — fits easily around work, travel or sightseeing in Busan.

Who is Milk Peel for — and when we suggest something else

Good candidates

  • Your skin is dry and feels rough, but stronger peels have stung in the past.
  • You want exfoliation and hydration in a single 20–30 minute visit.
  • Your makeup looks flaky or patchy on dry areas.
  • You want a gentle pre-event refresh, for example before a wedding.
  • You prefer a steady routine of mild care every 2–4 weeks.

We may suggest something else if…

  • Your main concern is blackheads and congested pores. Aqua Peel or Black Peel focuses more on oil and impurities.
  • You want to lighten spots or melasma. A peel only refreshes the surface; Pico Toning targets pigment.
  • Your skin is irritated, broken or sunburnt right now. Calm it first with Cryocell or LED Therapy, then peel later.
  • You have an active cold sore, rash or infection on the face. Dr. Park will usually ask you to wait until it heals.

What happens at your Milk Peel session in Seomyeon

  1. Message us on WhatsApp first. Tell us your skin type, any reactions to past peels, and whether you use retinoids. Mention any event date, such as a wedding.
  2. Consultation with Dr. Park. Dr. Park checks for dryness, sensitivity and broken skin. She confirms that a lactic acid peel suits you today.
  3. Preparation & numbing. Your face is cleansed and prepared. No numbing is needed, because the peel is mild.
  4. The treatment. The lactic acid solution is applied and timed, then removed and followed by calming care. The visit takes about 20–30 minutes, with light tingling at most.
  5. Out the door & follow-up. You leave with no downtime. Plan the next peel in 2–4 weeks, and message us if redness lasts beyond the day.

How Dr. Park plans your Milk Peel treatment

Lactic acid is one of the gentler peeling acids. It loosens dead surface cells and also helps the skin hold moisture. Dr. Park adjusts how long the solution stays on, based on how dry or reactive your skin is. First-time patients usually start on the cautious side.

Milk Peel is a repeat treatment, typically every 2–4 weeks. It is also used as one step in larger plans. The Photogenic Facial Contouring wedding packages combine Dermotoxin and Milk Peel with Shurink Universe 600 Shots, ONDA 60,000 J with Oligio X 300 Shots, or Ultherapy 600 Shots. In those plans, the peel prepares the skin surface while the other devices work deeper.

The aim is fresher, smoother skin that still looks like your skin. There is no visible peeling phase to hide.

Milk Peel results: what to expect and when

  • Right after: skin feels smoother; mild pinkness may appear briefly.
  • Days 1–3: skin looks fresher and more hydrated; very light flaking is possible.
  • After 3–4 sessions: texture and brightness usually look more even.
  • Ongoing: results vary by person; regular sessions maintain them.

Side effects, risks and who should avoid Milk Peel

Milk Peel is mild, but any chemical peel can cause temporary reactions. Possible side effects include:

  • Tingling or mild stinging during the peel
  • Short-lived redness
  • Light dryness or flaking for a few days
  • Rarely, irritation or darker patches in skin that reacts strongly to sun exposure

Not suitable if you: have an active skin infection, cold sore or open wound in the area; are sunburnt; have used isotretinoin recently; or have a known allergy to any ingredient. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or use prescription retinoids.

Downtime after Milk Peel, and flying home

Most people leave looking normal or slightly pink, and any redness usually fades quickly. Visible flaking is uncommon with this mild peel. Skip heavy makeup for the rest of the day, then return to your usual routine. Use sunscreen thoroughly, because freshly exfoliated skin burns more easily on Haeundae or Gwangalli beach.

Avoid saunas, jjimjilbang and hot baths on the day. Go easy on alcohol that evening, as it can increase flushing. You can fly the same day or the next. Moisturise during the flight. If your peel is part of a lifting package, tell Dr. Park your flight date when you book. See our aftercare tips for travellers.

Is a lactic acid peel safe for dry or sensitive skin?

For most people, yes, which is why Milk Peel is a common choice for dry or sensitive skin. Lactic acid has a larger molecule than glycolic acid, so it tends to work more slowly at the surface. It also has a moisturising effect. Sensitive is not the same as damaged, though. If your skin is currently raw, sunburnt or reacting to a new product, the peel can sting. Pause strong actives such as retinoids for a few days before, unless Dr. Park says otherwise. She will check your skin on the day and shorten the contact time if needed.

Why get a Milk Peel before a wedding or photo shoot?

Because it smooths flaky texture without a visible peeling phase, so makeup sits better. That is why Milk Peel appears in the clinic’s Photogenic Facial Contouring packages. Timing still matters. A first peel very close to the event is a gamble, since you do not yet know how your skin reacts. A trial session a few weeks earlier is safer. If you are combining it with lifting or Dermotoxin, the full plan needs time to settle. Message us with your event date, and Dr. Park will suggest a realistic schedule.

Will a Milk Peel help with acne or large pores?

It can help a little, but it is not the strongest tool for either. Regular exfoliation keeps dead cells from building up, so pores may look cleaner and skin smoother. However, Milk Peel is designed for gentleness and hydration first. For active acne, inflamed spots or very oily skin, other options target the cause more directly. These include Black Peel and, for stubborn acne, Accure Laser. If you have both dryness and breakouts, Dr. Park may combine approaches. Bring photos of your skin on a bad day.

Milk Peel FAQ

How much does Milk Peel cost in Busan?

At Art of Shine Clinic in Seomyeon, Milk Peel is available as a choose-one basic peel from KRW 39,000 in the Autumn Event (excl. 10% VAT). It is also part of wedding facial packages.

Does a Milk Peel hurt?

Most people feel only mild tingling or warmth while the lactic acid is on the skin. It is one of the gentler peels, so numbing is not needed. Tell the staff if anything feels too strong and the peel can be removed sooner.

How often should I get a Milk Peel?

A session every 2–4 weeks is usually recommended. Exfoliation and hydration build with regular care, and many people notice smoother, brighter-looking skin after a few sessions. How long the effect lasts varies by person.

Can I sightsee or fly after a Milk Peel?

Yes. There is no downtime, so you can carry on with your day. Wear sunscreen, avoid heavy makeup, saunas and hot baths that day, and moisturise well, especially on a dry flight.

Milk Peel vs Lala Peel: which should I choose?

Both are gentle, low-irritation peels for regular care. Milk Peel uses lactic acid and adds hydration, which suits dry, sensitive skin. Lala Peel focuses on refining texture and tone. Your doctor recommends one based on your skin.

Who decides if Milk Peel is right for me?

Dr. Park Yoon-soo, Head Director of Art of Shine Clinic, reviews your skin at consultation. She checks dryness, sensitivity and recent treatments before confirming a peel. You can send photos on WhatsApp beforehand.

Should I stop retinol before a Milk Peel?

Tell us about any retinoid, acid or prescription skin product when you book. Dr. Park may ask you to pause it for a few days before the peel. Do not stop prescribed medicine without asking your own doctor.

Can I book a Milk Peel for the same day?

Same-day availability depends on the schedule. Message us on WhatsApp with your preferred time. The clinic is open Mon–Fri 10:00–20:00 and Sat 10:00–16:00 (KST), and you pay at the clinic on the day.
