What is Excel V?

Excel V, made by Cutera in the USA, uses a 532 nm green laser (and a 1064 nm wavelength for deeper vessels). The green wavelength is strongly absorbed by haemoglobin in small surface vessels, so it can heat and close them while a cooled tip protects the skin surface. The body then clears the treated vessels over the following weeks.

It is commonly used for diffuse facial redness, visible capillaries and red marks after acne. For combined pigment and redness care, see Clarity II; for active acne, see Accure Laser.

How Excel V works

The laser light is absorbed by haemoglobin inside small, dilated vessels and converted to heat, which closes the vessel. A cooled tip protects the outer skin. Over the next few weeks the body reabsorbs the treated vessels, so redness gradually fades.

  1. Consultation: your doctor assesses the type and depth of redness and sets the plan.
  2. Treatment: the cooled laser tip is passed over the area for about 10–20 minutes.
  3. After: soothing care and sunscreen; sessions repeat every 2–4 weeks.

Why patients choose Excel V

  • Built for vessels — a laser designed for redness and visible capillaries.
  • Focused care for red marks — also used for red marks after acne.
  • Cooled tip — protects the skin surface and adds comfort.
  • Little to no downtime — most people return to their day straight away.

Who is Excel V for — and when we suggest something else

Good candidates

  • You have persistent facial redness, for example on the cheeks or nose.
  • You can see small dilated vessels on your face.
  • Acne has left red marks that have not faded.
  • You want an even tone without redness, with no visible downtime.
  • You can return for sessions every 2–4 weeks.

We may suggest something else if…

  • Your marks are brown rather than red. Pigment responds better to Pico Toning or Brighton Toning.
  • You have active, inflamed acne. Treat it first with options such as Accure Laser.
  • You want to treat pigment, redness and hair together. Clarity II covers more concerns.
  • Your redness is a flare of rosacea or dermatitis right now. Dr. Park may suggest calming it first, or medical treatment.
  • You are freshly tanned or sunburnt. Laser treatment is usually postponed.

What happens at your Excel V session in Seomyeon

  1. Message us on WhatsApp first. Send photos of your redness in daylight, and tell us what triggers it (heat, alcohol, products). Mention any rosacea diagnosis.
  2. Consultation with Dr. Park. Dr. Park looks at the type of redness: diffuse flushing, visible vessels or post-acne marks. She checks for active inflammation.
  3. Preparation & numbing. Your skin is cleansed. Numbing is usually not needed, but numbing cream is available if you are sensitive.
  4. The treatment. The cooled handpiece treats the red areas in about 10–20 minutes. You feel quick, warm snaps.
  5. Out the door & follow-up. You return to daily life straight away. Plan the next session in 2–4 weeks, and message us if swelling or redness persists.

How Dr. Park plans your Excel V treatment

Excel V is a laser designed for vascular lesions. Its light is absorbed by the blood in small vessels, which helps reduce visible redness. Dr. Park adjusts the settings to the type of redness. Fine visible vessels are targeted differently from diffuse flushing.

Sessions are usually spaced every 2–4 weeks. Visible vessels may respond in fewer sessions. Diffuse redness and post-acne marks often need more. Dr. Park reviews progress each time and adjusts as needed.

The aim is calmer, more even skin, not a bleached look. Excel V is quoted individually, so ask on WhatsApp for a course price.

Excel V results: what to expect and when

  • Right after: mild redness or warmth; small vessels may look darker briefly.
  • Weeks 1–3: treated vessels fade gradually as the body clears them.
  • After 3–5 sessions: overall redness usually looks visibly reduced.
  • Ongoing: new redness can appear over time; maintenance may help. Results vary by person.

Side effects, risks and who should avoid Excel V

Excel V is widely used for vascular concerns. Possible side effects include:

  • Redness, warmth or mild swelling for a few hours to days
  • Occasional small bruise-like marks after stronger vascular settings
  • Rarely, blistering, crusting or temporary pigment change

Not suitable if you: are pregnant; have an active skin infection, cold sore or open wound in the area; are sunburnt or recently tanned; have used isotretinoin recently; take photosensitising medication; or have a history of keloid scarring. Tell your doctor about any blood thinners or skin conditions.

Excel V vs Clarity II, LED Therapy and Cryocell: which should you choose?

These options all address redness, but only lasers target the vessels themselves.

Clarity II Dual-wavelength laser Redness plus pigment or hair None Varies by individual
LED Therapy Low-energy light Calming reactive skin None Varies by individual

Downtime after Excel V, and flying home

Redness or warmth may appear right after treatment and usually settles within a few days. Some people notice mild swelling, which tends to ease quickly. Do not scratch or rub the area. Keep it moisturised, and apply sunscreen thoroughly for 1–2 weeks.

On the day, avoid saunas, jjimjilbang, hot baths, alcohol and hard exercise. Heat can bring redness back. Light makeup is usually fine from the next day. Flying is generally fine, but cabin air and alcohol on board can make skin flush. Tell Dr. Park your flight date so she can plan sessions around your trip. See our aftercare tips for travellers.

Can Excel V help with rosacea redness?

Lasers for vascular lesions are commonly used for the visible redness and vessels associated with rosacea. However, Excel V does not cure rosacea. The tendency to flush stays, and triggers such as heat, alcohol and spicy food still matter. If your skin is in an active flare, with bumps or burning, Dr. Park may suggest calming it first. Some cases need medical treatment alongside laser. Tell her about your diagnosis and current medicines. A realistic goal is less background redness and fewer visible vessels.

Why are red acne marks treated differently from brown acne marks?

Because they are caused by different things. Red or pink marks after acne are related to blood vessels and inflammation in healing skin. Brown marks are pigment left behind by inflammation. Excel V targets the red marks. Brown marks respond better to toning lasers such as Pico Toning. Many people have both, so Dr. Park may combine lasers over a course. She treats active acne first, because new spots keep creating new marks. Indented scars are another category again; ask about Potenza.

Will my redness come back after Excel V?

Treated vessels can stay reduced for a long time, but new redness can develop. Sun exposure, heat, alcohol and genetics all play a part. That is why results are listed as varying by person. Some people return for occasional maintenance sessions. Daily sunscreen and avoiding your known triggers help keep results. Gentle skincare does too. If redness returns quickly after treatment, mention it to Dr. Park at your next visit. It may point to an underlying condition.
