What is Helios 4?

Helios is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser line made in Korea. In toning mode, the 1064 nm wavelength is delivered at low energy in a wide, even beam, breaking up melanin while keeping heat to the surrounding skin low. This gentle approach is why laser toning is widely used for melasma, which can worsen with aggressive heat.

Your doctor may combine toning with other modes in one plan. Related options include Pico Toning, Brighton Toning and, for redness, Excel V.

How Helios 4 works

Very short, low-energy laser pulses are passed evenly over the face. Melanin absorbs the energy and breaks into smaller particles that the body clears over time. Because the energy is spread gently, the surrounding skin is spared, so you can usually return to your day immediately.

  1. Consultation: your doctor assesses your pigment type and sets a course.
  2. Toning: the laser is passed evenly over the face for about 10–20 minutes.
  3. After: soothing care and sunscreen; sessions repeat every 2–4 weeks.

Why patients choose Helios 4

  • Precise pigment toning — targets excess melanin behind dull tone and spots.
  • Gentle on surrounding skin — low energy keeps heat and irritation down.
  • No downtime — you can continue work or sightseeing straight away.
  • Clearer tone over time — regular sessions build a more even complexion.

Who is Helios 4 for — and when we suggest something else

Good candidates

  • You have melasma or scattered blemishes.
  • Your skin tone looks dull or uneven.
  • You want pigment care without visible downtime.
  • You can commit to a toning course every 2–4 weeks.
  • You want to try a single session at an event price before a full course.

We may suggest something else if…

  • You want to fade a tattoo. Tattoo Removal has its own plan.
  • You are freshly tanned or sunburnt, or pregnant with new melasma. Dr. Park may suggest waiting.

How Dr. Park plans your Helios 4 treatment

Choosing the mode

Helios 4 is a laser toning device for pigmented lesions. The HELIOS IV Omakase package lets you choose 3 from toning, brightening, pico fractional laser, RTP toning or Genesis. Dr. Park helps you pick the combination that suits your pigment and texture.

Starting with one session

A single HELIOS 785 session is available as an event option. It is a way to see how your skin responds before committing to a course.

Spacing and natural results

Sessions are spaced every 2–4 weeks. Energy is kept low to limit damage to surrounding skin, especially with melasma. The goal is a clearer, even tone that still looks like you.

Helios 4 results: what to expect and when

  • Right after: mild redness or warmth that settles within hours.
  • After 3–5 sessions: many people notice a brighter, more even tone.
  • After 5–10 sessions: melasma and blemishes usually look lighter; courses vary.
  • Ongoing: pigment can return with sun and hormones; maintenance helps. Results vary by person.

Side effects, risks and who should avoid Helios 4

Laser toning is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include:

  • Mild redness, warmth or itching for a few hours to days
  • Temporary dryness
  • Rarely, temporary darkening or white spots (hypopigmentation), especially with frequent high-energy treatment

Not suitable if you: are pregnant; have an active skin infection, cold sore or open wound in the area; are sunburnt or recently tanned; have used isotretinoin recently; take photosensitising medication; or have a history of keloid scarring. Tell your doctor about any blood thinners or skin conditions.

Helios 4 vs Pico Toning, Brighton Toning and Clarity II: which should you choose?

These pigment lasers overlap; device choice often depends on your skin’s response.

Treatment How it works Best for Downtime Results last
Helios 4 Laser toning device for pigmented lesions Melasma, blemishes, dull tone None Varies by individual
Pico Toning Picosecond pulses break pigment into fine particles Melasma, blemishes None Varies by individual
Brighton Toning Low-energy toning targeting melanin Melasma, dull tone None Varies by individual
Clarity II Dual-wavelength laser Pigment plus redness or hair None Varies by individual

Choose Helios 4 if you want toning plus options like pico fractional laser or Genesis in one package. Choose Clarity II if redness is part of the picture. Dr. Park confirms the final device.

Downtime after Helios 4, and flying home

Redness or warmth may appear right after treatment and usually settles within a few days. If your Omakase includes pico fractional laser, expect a little more texture or redness for a short time. Do not scratch or rub the skin. Moisturise well and apply sunscreen thoroughly for 1–2 weeks.

Avoid saunas, jjimjilbang, hot baths, hard exercise and alcohol on the day. Light makeup is usually fine from the next day. Flying is generally fine soon after toning. Keep moisturiser in your hand luggage. Tell Dr. Park your flight date, especially if you choose a package with several treatments. See our aftercare tips for travellers.

What is included in HELIOS IV Omakase, and how do I choose?

You choose 3 treatments from toning, brightening, pico fractional laser, RTP toning or Genesis. The best mix depends on your main concern. If pigment is the priority, toning-based options usually lead. If you also want smoother texture, Dr. Park may include pico fractional laser. Genesis is often chosen for tone and overall skin quality. Dr. Park will explain the trade-offs, including any extra redness. You do not have to decide before you arrive. Bring photos and your questions.

Is one Helios 4 session enough to see a difference?

Some people notice a brighter tone after one session, but pigment usually needs a course. Toning breaks down pigment gradually, and the body clears it over weeks. Melasma is especially slow and can return with sun or hormones. The single HELIOS 785 session is useful as a first step. It shows how your skin reacts before you commit. If you live outside Korea, Dr. Park can suggest home care and sun protection to protect results between visits.

Can I use whitening or brightening creams with Helios 4 toning?

Often yes, but ask Dr. Park before you start or continue them. Some brightening products contain acids or retinoids that make skin more sensitive. Using them right after laser can cause stinging or irritation, which can worsen pigment. In the first days after treatment, a gentle moisturiser and sunscreen are usually best. Dr. Park will tell you when to restart active products. Bring the names of your products, or photos of the labels, to your consultation.

Helios 4 FAQ

How much does Helios 4 cost in Busan?

At Art of Shine Clinic in Seomyeon, a single HELIOS 785 session is KRW 99,000 in the Autumn Event, and HELIOS IV Omakase (choose 3 treatments) is KRW 390,000 in the AOS Skin Package (excl. 10% VAT).

Does Helios 4 toning hurt?

Most people feel a light snapping or prickling warmth. Toning uses low energy, so numbing is usually not needed, though numbing cream is available if you are sensitive. Sessions take about 10–20 minutes.

How many Helios 4 sessions do I need?

Laser toning works as a course. Sessions every 2–4 weeks are usually recommended, and melasma often needs around 5–10 sessions. Your doctor sets the plan based on your pigment type and response.

Can I sightsee or fly after Helios 4?

Yes. There is no downtime, so you can carry on with your trip. Use sunscreen carefully for 1–2 weeks and avoid saunas, hot baths, hard exercise and alcohol on the day of treatment.

Helios 4 vs Pico Toning: what is the difference?

Both lighten pigment through laser toning. Helios 4 is a Q-switched nanosecond laser, while Pico Toning uses even shorter picosecond pulses to shatter pigment into finer particles. Your doctor chooses the device for your skin and pigment type.

Who plans my Helios 4 course?

Dr. Park Yoon-soo, Head Director of Art of Shine Clinic, assesses your pigment and sets the plan. She adjusts settings as your skin responds over the course, and can change the treatment mix if progress is slow.

Do foreign visitors pay the same event price?

Listed prices are in KRW, exclude 10% VAT and are paid at the clinic on the day. Event prices and periods change, so confirm on WhatsApp when you book.

Do I need to book a consultation before Helios 4?
