What is Anti-Inflammatory Injection?
Deep, inflamed acne such as cysts and nodules can stay painful for days and is more likely to leave a mark or scar. Injecting a small amount of diluted anti-inflammatory medicine straight into the lesion reduces the inflammation where it starts, so the spot flattens and settles faster than it would on its own.
This is a spot treatment for individual inflamed lesions, not a treatment for the underlying acne tendency. At Art of Shine Clinic it is often combined with Extraction and Aqua Peel, and with treatments that target oil glands, such as the Accure Laser or Agnes.
How Anti-Inflammatory Injection works
The medicine reduces the inflammatory response inside the lesion, which decreases swelling, redness and pain. Only a very small, diluted dose is used for each spot to limit side effects in the surrounding skin.
- Consultation: your doctor checks which lesions are inflamed and suitable for injection.
- Injection: a very fine needle delivers a small dose into each lesion. The whole treatment takes about 5–10 minutes without numbing.
- After: you can carry on with your day. Swelling and pain usually ease within 1–3 days.
Why patients choose Anti-Inflammatory Injection
- Direct to the lesion — medicine goes straight into the inflamed spot.
- Fast relief — pain and swelling typically ease within 1–3 days.
- Lower scarring risk — calming inflammation early helps protect the skin.
- Quick — about 5–10 minutes, with no numbing needed.
Who is the Anti-Inflammatory Injection for — and when we suggest something else
Good candidates
- People with a red, firm, swollen acne lesion that hurts to touch.
- People with a deep spot that cannot be safely squeezed or extracted.
- Travellers who want a painful breakout to settle within days.
- People worried that a large inflamed spot may leave a mark.
- Anyone combining acne care visits with extraction or peels.
We may suggest something else if…
- Your skin is mainly clogged with blackheads and whiteheads. Extraction is the first step.
- Breakouts keep returning across the face. Accure Laser or Agnes aim at the oil glands behind them.
- Acne has healed but left depressed scars. Potenza works on scar texture instead.
- The lesion may be infected, rapidly spreading or accompanied by fever. Dr. Park may recommend a different medical approach.
- You have had a reaction to injected medication before. Tell us so Dr. Park can decide whether it is suitable.
What happens at your Anti-Inflammatory Injection session in Seomyeon
- Message us on WhatsApp first. Send a photo of the spots you want treated and how long they have been there.
- Consultation with Dr. Park. She checks how deep and inflamed each lesion is. She then decides which ones to inject and which need other care.
- Preparation. The skin is cleansed. No separate anaesthesia is required, as the needle is very fine.
- The treatment. A tiny amount of anti-inflammatory medication goes directly into each lesion. The visit takes about 5–10 minutes, with a brief sting.
- Out the door and follow-up. Inflammation usually eases within 1–3 days. Contact us if a spot persists or worsens.
How Dr. Park plans your anti-inflammatory injection treatment
The medication is placed directly inside the inflamed lesion, not spread across the face. This keeps the dose small and targeted. Dr. Park chooses the amount by lesion size and depth.
Using too much medication in one spot can cause a temporary dent in the skin. This is why each lesion is dosed cautiously. If a lesion does not settle, it can be retreated when inflammation recurs, after review.
The injection is part of our AOS Skin Package of 5 sessions with Aqua Peel and extraction. Combining care treats the current flare and helps keep pores clear.
Anti-Inflammatory Injection results: what to expect and when
- First 24 hours: pain and tenderness begin to ease.
- Days 1–3: swelling and redness reduce and the lesion flattens.
- Week 1–2: the spot settles; any mark left fades over the following weeks.
- If needed: new or recurring inflamed lesions can be treated again. Results vary by person.
Side effects, risks and who should avoid Anti-Inflammatory Injection
Anti-inflammatory acne injections are a common spot treatment. Possible side effects include:
- Brief stinging, small bruises or redness at the injection site
- Temporary indentation (thinning) of the skin, which usually recovers over time
- Rarely, lightening of the skin at the injection site
- New spots can still form, as the injection treats existing lesions only
Not suitable if you: have a skin infection other than acne at the site, such as a boil that needs draining; are allergic to the medicine used; or are pregnant or breastfeeding (discuss with your doctor first). Tell your doctor if you have had injections in the same spot recently.
Anti-Inflammatory Injection vs Extraction and Accure Laser: which should you choose?
Each step deals with a different stage of acne.
| Treatment | How it works | Best for | Downtime | Results last |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anti-Inflammatory Injection | Medication injected directly into an inflamed lesion | Red, firm, painful single spots | Inflammation eases within 1–3 days | Until that lesion resolves |
| Extraction | Sterile removal of sebum and comedones | Clogged pores and early acne | Temporary redness for 1–2 days | Varies by person; every 2–4 weeks |
| Accure Laser | Laser energy absorbed by sebum targets oil glands | Recurring acne across an area | Skin recovery of about 3–7 days | Varies by person; sessions every 3–4 weeks |
Choose the injection for a painful spot you need to settle quickly. Choose extraction for clogged pores. Choose Accure when breakouts keep coming back and you want to reduce how often.

What is in an acne anti-inflammatory injection?
It contains an anti-inflammatory medication, often a diluted steroid, placed directly into the lesion. The aim is to calm the swelling and pain of a deep, inflamed spot quickly. Only a small amount is used per lesion.
Ask Dr. Park what she uses and why if you want details. Tell her about allergies, pregnancy and any medicines before treatment. The injection treats an existing spot only. It does not prevent new acne, so other care may still be needed.
Can an acne injection leave a dent in my skin?
Occasionally, yes. A small, temporary indentation can appear where the medication was placed. It usually recovers over time, but this can take weeks to months.
The risk rises with larger doses or repeated injections in the same spot. That is why Dr. Park doses each lesion cautiously. If you notice a dip after treatment, do not massage or treat it yourself. Send a photo on WhatsApp. Most people see the area gradually return to normal. Dr. Park can review it at your next visit.
How fast does an acne injection work before an event?
Many people notice pain easing within a day. The lesion often flattens noticeably within 1–3 days. Large or very deep lesions may take longer.
If you have a wedding, meeting or photos, come at least a few days before. Results vary, and some lesions need a second look. Avoid squeezing the spot or covering it with heavy makeup on the first day. Dr. Park can tell you on the day whether a quick result is realistic. Concealer is usually fine from the next day.
Anti-Inflammatory Injection FAQ
How much does an anti-inflammatory acne injection cost in Busan?
At Art of Shine Clinic in Seomyeon, the injection is part of our AOS Skin Package. It combines Aqua Peel, acne extraction and anti-inflammatory injections over 5 sessions. The package is KRW 290,000 (regular KRW 500,000, excl. 10% VAT). Ask on WhatsApp about single-lesion treatment.
Does an anti-inflammatory acne injection hurt?
Most people feel only a brief sting from the very fine needle, so no numbing is needed. Because inflamed spots are already tender, you may feel some pressure. The whole treatment usually takes about 5–10 minutes.
How quickly does an anti-inflammatory injection work?
Pain and swelling often start to ease within a day, and most lesions flatten noticeably within 1–3 days. The injection treats existing inflamed spots only, so ongoing acne care is needed to reduce new breakouts.
Can I go out or fly after an anti-inflammatory injection?
Yes. There is no downtime, so you can continue sightseeing or travel the same day. Avoid touching or picking the spots, skip heavy makeup on the day and wear sunscreen. Contact the clinic if a lesion gets worse.
What is the difference between an anti-inflammatory injection and extraction?
Extraction clears blackheads, whiteheads and trapped sebum from pores to stop inflammation spreading. An anti-inflammatory injection calms deep, red, painful lesions that cannot be safely extracted. Your doctor often combines both in one visit.
Who gives the injection at Art of Shine Clinic?
Dr. Park Yoon-soo, our Head Director, examines each lesion and decides the dose. She graduated from Kyungpook National University School of Medicine and completed her internship at Asan Medical Center.
Can I come in for a painful spot without much notice?
Message us on WhatsApp with a photo and your preferred time. We are open Monday to Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00, and we will tell you which slots are free.
How many spots can be injected in one visit?
It depends on the size and number of inflamed lesions. Dr. Park keeps doses small to limit the risk of dents. She may treat the most painful spots first and suggest other care for the rest.
