Collagen Regeneration Treatments in Korea: Available Options
“Collagen regeneration” covers a wide group of Korean clinic treatments that aim to help your skin make more of its own collagen, the protein that keeps it firm and smooth. Some are injectables, some are energy devices, and they work on different layers of the face. For visitors to Busan, the choice can be confusing, so this guide maps out the main options, what each is best for, what they cost and how much time each needs.
Quick answer: Collagen regeneration treatments fall into three groups. Injectable collagen stimulators (Juvelook Skin and Volume, Olidia, Radiesse) place materials that trigger new collagen gradually. Repair and matrix boosters (Rejuran, CellREDM) support skin quality and resilience. Energy devices (Ultherapy and Shurink Universe HIFU, Thermage FLX, OligioX and Alltite radiofrequency, ONDA microwave and Potenza microneedle RF) use controlled heat to tighten and remodel collagen. Results build over weeks to months rather than instantly. In Seomyeon, options range from about KRW 319,000 to over KRW 1,000,000 before 10% VAT.
How collagen regeneration works
From our mid-twenties, collagen production slowly declines, and sun exposure speeds up its breakdown. Treatments try to stimulate fibroblasts, the cells that make collagen, in one of two ways:
- A controlled biological trigger: injected materials such as PDLLA, PLLA or calcium hydroxylapatite prompt a mild healing response that lays down new collagen around them.
- Controlled heat or micro-injury: ultrasound, radiofrequency or microwave energy heats tissue to tighten existing collagen and start remodelling, and microneedling creates tiny channels that trigger repair.
Because the body builds collagen slowly, the main change appears over 2–6 months, and results fade gradually with natural ageing.
Option 1: injectable collagen stimulators
- Juvelook Skin (PDLLA with hyaluronic acid): placed in the upper skin for texture, pores and fine lines; three or more sessions.
- Juvelook Volume : placed deeper for mild hollows and gradual soft volume; three or more sessions.
- Olidia (PLLA): gradual volume and elasticity over a series.
- Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite): immediate support plus collagen stimulation for folds and neck lines; about 12–18 months.
These have a reasonably established evidence base as a class. They cannot be dissolved like hyaluronic acid filler, so conservative, gradual dosing matters.
Option 2: repair and matrix boosters
- Rejuran Healer and Rejuran HB : PN from salmon DNA to support repair, texture and elasticity; HB adds hyaluronic acid.
- CellREDM : an extracellular matrix booster aimed at thin, slack skin, firmness and fine lines.
Newer regenerative add-ons such as exosomes, PRP and stem cell culture extract are also offered, but their evidence for collagen regeneration is more limited and results are less predictable.
Option 3: energy-based devices
- Ultherapy / Ultherapy PRIME : imaging-guided focused ultrasound down to the SMAS layer, for deeper sagging.
- Shurink Universe : HIFU at set depths for jawline definition and more frequent maintenance.
- Thermage FLX : monopolar radiofrequency heating the deep dermis for overall firmness and fine lines.
- OligioX and Alltite : radiofrequency options for firmness and elasticity; OligioX usually needs no numbing.
- ONDA : microwave energy for firmness and the fat layer, useful for a soft jawline.
- Potenza : microneedle RF for acne scars, pores and firmness, with about 3–7 days of skin recovery.
Most lifting devices take 30–60 minutes, have little or no downtime and typically last about 6–12 months.
How to choose
- Sagging cheeks and jawline: HIFU such as Ultherapy or Shurink Universe.
- Crepey, loose-feeling skin: radiofrequency such as Thermage FLX or OligioX.
- Texture, pores and fine lines: Juvelook Skin, often with Potenza for scars.
- Mild hollows: Juvelook Volume, Olidia or Radiesse.
- Thin, damaged skin: Rejuran or CellREDM.
- Both depth and surface: many people combine a device with a booster; the device firms, the booster improves skin quality.

What happens on the day
- Consultation. The doctor assesses skin thickness, laxity, volume and texture, and decides which layer needs work.
- Numbing. Numbing cream is applied for about 20–30 minutes for most injectables and devices.
- Treatment. Injectables take about 10–20 minutes; devices about 30–60 minutes.
- After. Soothing care may be added, and you return to your day.
Recovery and aftercare
- Injectables: small bumps, needle marks or mild swelling for 1–2 days; bruising is possible.
- HIFU and RF devices: mild redness or tenderness, often settling within hours to a few days.
- Potenza: redness, swelling or marks for about 3–7 days.
On the day, skip saunas and jjimjilbang, hot baths, hard exercise and alcohol, and use sunscreen carefully. Rare risks vary by treatment and include lumps, infection, nerve irritation or burns, so treatment should be performed by a doctor.
Planning around a trip
Single-session devices such as Ultherapy or Thermage fit a short stay well because one session is usually enough for a visible change. Injectable stimulators and boosters usually need three or more sessions 2–4 weeks apart, which suits longer stays or repeat trips. Book Potenza early in your stay to allow recovery before flying.
Frequently asked questions
Which collagen treatment lasts longest?
Radiesse often lasts about 12–18 months; most lifting devices about 6–12 months. Stimulator results fade gradually and vary between people.
Can I combine a device with a booster?
Yes. This is a common Korean approach, since devices and boosters work on different layers. The doctor decides the order.
When will I see results?
Some tightening may be felt early, but collagen builds over 2–6 months.
